Maria Pawelec is a research associate at the International Center for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) at the University of Tübingen, Germany. She has a background in political science and public administration and studied in Konstanz, Istanbul, Bath and Berlin. Since 2020, she has been investigating the ethical and societal implications of ‘deepfakes’ and opportunities for their regulation. Currently, she is also conducting research on the prevention of digital disinformation campaigns by security authorities in democracies.
